Yun Byeong-tae Naju Mayor Transition Committee Prepares Improvement Plan for Sanitation Worker Recruitment

[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] The Transition Committee for Mayor Yoon Byung-tae of Naju City (Chairman Yeoseonggu) announced on the 30th that it has prepared improvement measures for the hiring criteria of Naju City sanitation workers, which had been embroiled in controversies last year over allegations of interview score manipulation, solicitation, and bribery.

The aim is to establish more objective criteria and ensure fairness in the hiring process by adjusting the scoring distribution of test items and introducing a written exam.

The Special Committee for Administrative Innovation under the Transition Committee (Chairman Jang Haengjun) recently conducted an in-depth review of the current status of sanitation worker operations and the overall hiring procedures, including document screening, physical tests, interviews, and the scoring distribution of test subjects.

The current hiring procedure for Naju City sanitation workers proceeds in the order of first document screening, second physical test (three events including sit-ups), and third interview test.

Out of a total of 100 points, documents are scored 10 points, physical and interview tests are each scored 45 points, and the final successful candidates are selected in order of highest total scores.

However, considering the importance of physical conditions for the job, there have been voices among applicants that the weight of the physical test score (45 points) is too low.

Conversely, the interview score, which may involve subjective judgment by the interviewers, has been criticized for having an excessive weight of 45 points.

Accordingly, the Transition Committee has prepared an improvement plan to increase the physical test score from 45 points to 60 points and reduce the interview test score to 20 points.

In particular, a written exam, currently implemented in some cities and counties in the province, will be introduced to establish objective criteria.

The number of interview committee members will also be increased from the current three to five by adding two external members to ensure objectivity and fairness.

Additionally, the committee is considering changing the scoring method to calculate the average by excluding the highest and lowest scores instead of summing all judges' scores.

A representative of the Transition Committee said, “We agreed on the need for objective criteria such as the introduction of a written exam that many applicants and citizens can recognize to prevent unfortunate incidents like hiring solicitations.” He added, “We plan to prepare improvement measures for the sanitation worker hiring process in line with the launch of the 8th civilian administration.”
