Gyeonggi-do to Assign Addresses to Forest Paths, Farm Roads, and Underground Shopping Malls

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will assign addresses to underground shopping malls or outdoor locations without addresses. In this case, the connection with new services such as drone delivery and robot industries, which are expected to see a surge in demand, will be strengthened, greatly improving the convenience of life for residents.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that it has established the "1st Gyeonggi Province Address Information Utilization Execution Plan (2022-2026)" to expand the current 1,185,000 address information to more than double by 2026, including inside buildings, forest paths, and objects.

This plan is a follow-up measure according to the "1st Basic Plan for Address Information Utilization" prepared by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety after the full revision of the "Road Name Address Act" last year. It is being promoted with a focus on building a future ecosystem combined with data, networks, and artificial intelligence to complement the existing building- and road-centered address system.

The revised Road Name Address Act allows the expansion of building addresses, which were assigned based on roads and buildings, to places without road names such as elevated and underground three-dimensional roads, internal building roads, forest paths, and farm roads.

Accordingly, the province set the basic directions to expand densely connected address information and to create an address intelligent information data, network, and artificial intelligence ecosystem.

First, roads, which were mainly ground-level roads, will be divided into three-dimensional roads, internal roads, and indoor movement paths inside buildings to assign address information.

Objects such as subway station restrooms, storage lockers, and fire hydrants will be assigned object addresses to secure the golden time by identifying locations in case of emergency patients.

Address information will also be assigned to farm vinyl greenhouses to enable deliveries, and information about parking lots and entrances for the disabled will be built to create an environment where addresses can be utilized.

The detailed address system (indicating building and unit numbers after the road name address) will also be expanded within the existing building address system.

As a result, when using pedestrian navigation, it will be possible to guide beyond apartment or shopping mall entrances to stairs, elevators, corridors, and even in front of doors, enabling the introduction of new services where autonomous delivery robots deliver packages from unmanned parcel lockers to the door, the province expects.

A provincial official explained, "The more address information is expanded, the stronger the connection with new services such as drone delivery, robot industries, and indoor navigation will be, improving the convenience of residents' lives. We also expect the activation of industrial ecosystems such as metaverse, smart cities, and autonomous vehicles by building address information suitable for the digital age and utilizing it."
