[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] A woman in her 50s who drugged a man in his 60s with sleeping pills mixed in alcohol and stole valuables has been caught by the police.
The Masanjungbu Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 29th that they have arrested Ms. A on charges of robbery and are investigating the case.
Ms. A is accused of giving a man in his 60s, Mr. B, who was staying long-term at a motel in Masanhappo-gu, Changwon City, alcohol mixed with sleeping pills starting from June 2020, and after Mr. B fell asleep, stealing 3 million won from his bag and fleeing.
According to the police, Ms. A approached Mr. B suggesting to drink together, then gave him alcohol mixed with sleeping pills and committed the crime.
After receiving Mr. B’s report, the police analyzed the alcohol found at the scene and Mr. B’s urine, confirming the presence of zolpidem, a psychotropic drug. Through CCTV tracking and inquiries, they urgently arrested Ms. A, who was hiding in a motel in Masanhappo-gu.
During the investigation, it was revealed that from June 2020 to June 16 of this year, Ms. A approached five men aged 60 to 80 living alone in a similar manner and stole a total of 4.69 million won in cash.
It was also revealed that Ms. A has suffered from sleep disorders for three years and had been prescribed and taking zolpidem, a sleep-inducing medication, from a hospital.
The police stated that Ms. A admitted to the crimes and that further investigation into additional offenses is ongoing.
