[Featured Stock] Puruntyeo, Korea's First LiDAR Equipment... Fostering 850 Trillion Won Autonomous Driving National Strategic Project

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Puruntier is showing strength. It appears that securities firms' analysis that the company will benefit from the growth of the automotive camera market has influenced its stock price.

As of 1:48 PM on the 29th, Puruntier is trading at 26,600 KRW, up 4.93% from the previous day.

Puruntier is a company specializing in automation equipment related to camera modules. It is engaged in the business of assembling and inspecting automotive cameras and selling key components for automated processes.

Myungjun Kwon, a researcher at Yuanta Securities, explained, "Puruntier continues to develop 'domestic first' equipment through excellent technology," adding, "They succeeded in developing Korea's first camera module Active Align equipment in 2012, the first Dual Align equipment in 2016, the first Trifocal sensing camera manufacturing line in 2018, and the first autonomous driving Lidar Active Align equipment in 2021."

He continued, "Recently, they are expanding into the Lidar field and are also developing process equipment with a domestic Lidar company (SOSLab)."

He emphasized, "Puruntier has already secured more than 20 companies as clients for automotive equipment, including Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Optrontec, and Hyundai Mobis," adding, "They have top-tier global autonomous driving sensor manufacturers as clients, not only domestic camera manufacturers."

Sales are expected to grow by 61.3% this year to 35.8 billion KRW and by 29.6% next year to 46.4 billion KRW compared to the previous year.

Researcher Kwon stressed, "As the function of automotive cameras expands from 'See' to the concept of 'Sensing,' camera specifications will also be upgraded," adding, "Considering that smartphones have seen pixel count improvements over the past decade, demand for automotive camera modules and inspection equipment will increase."

According to the Korea Automobile Industry Association, the autonomous vehicle market size is expected to grow from 7 billion USD in 2020 to 656.5 billion USD in 2030, with an average annual growth rate of 57.4%. Researcher Kwon explained, "With the advancement of autonomous driving levels, the number of automotive cameras in vehicles will increase," adding, "Currently released vehicles are mainly at autonomous driving level 2, applying about five automotive cameras."

He added, "At level 5, where full autonomous driving is possible, more than 15 cameras are expected to be used," and "This means 2 to 3 times more cameras than now will be needed, and automotive equipment will also grow accordingly."

Meanwhile, Won Heeryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated at a Kwanhun Club invitation discussion, "We will boldly invest in mobility sectors such as autonomous vehicles and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) to foster them as national strategic industries." He continued, "We will soon launch a Mobility Innovation Committee composed of top private experts," and "In August, we will announce a future mobility innovation roadmap to present the vision and concrete plans."
