[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 29th that it held the regular meeting of the North Korean Defectors Support Regional Council for the first half of this year on the 27th.
The North Korean Defectors Regional Council is a consultative body that plays a role in coordinating and deliberating on community settlement support projects such as exchange and pairing, employment, education, medical care, and legal support to help North Korean defectors settle stably in the region.
At the meeting, discussions were held on ways to develop support projects for the settlement of North Korean defectors based on the current year's project progress of each institution, including the Gwangju Hana Center and Gwangju Western Office of Education.
An official from the council said, “We will gather wisdom to prepare effective measures so that North Korean defectors in the region can lead peaceful and stable lives as members of the Republic of Korea through information sharing and mutual cooperation with related organizations.”
The North Korean Defectors Support Council of Seo-gu serves as a focal point responsible for practical support for defectors, discovering and promoting policies so that North Korean defectors who face difficulties adapting to society can confidently become self-reliant as citizens of the Republic of Korea.
It is also actively taking the lead to ensure that various beneficial information is shared with them.
