[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Jeju Air has started operating the Incheon~Mongolia Ulaanbaatar route four times a week.

On the morning of the 29th, Jeju Air held a launch ceremony at Incheon International Airport attended by Kim I-bae, CEO of Jeju Air, Kim Beom-ho, Head of Future Business Division at Incheon International Airport, and Ko Beom-seok, Office Director of the Mongolia Tourism Corporation Korea Representative Office, among other guests, and began operations.

The Incheon~Ulaanbaatar route is Jeju Air’s first regular Korea-Mongolia route and the first new route launched since the COVID-19 pandemic. The flight schedule departs from Incheon International Airport at 10:20 AM (local time) and arrives at Chinggis Khaan International Airport at 1:00 PM. The return flight departs from Chinggis Khaan International Airport at 2:00 PM and arrives at Incheon International Airport at 6:10 PM.

Mongolia is the world’s second-largest landlocked country and a UNESCO-designated country of pristine world natural heritage. It is an ideal destination for travelers seeking unique experiences, with attractions such as Terelj National Park, known for its dramatic rock formations, Bayan Zag, a dinosaur fossil excavation site, and Yolyn Am, an ice valley in the middle of the desert where visitors can see ice.

Additionally, experiencing the traditional culture of Mongolian nomads living with horses on the endless grasslands and stargazing the Milky Way and constellations at one of the world’s top three star observation sites offer travelers a special experience. Mongolia allows visa-free entry and travelers can visit freely regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.

With Jeju Air’s new Incheon~Ulaanbaatar route, the air connection between Korea and Mongolia has significantly expanded, and the number of travelers visiting Mongolia is expected to increase further.

According to the Mongolian National Statistics Office, 101,279 Korean travelers visited Mongolia in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. This figure is about twice the 57,587 visitors in 2016, showing a high average annual growth rate of 15% over four years from 2016 to 2019.

A Jeju Air official said, “With Jeju Air’s launch of the Incheon~Mongolia route, a true multi-airline system has been established, allowing consumers to travel to Mongolia at more affordable prices. We will lead the popularization of travel to Mongolia by enhancing consumer benefits through differentiated fares and services based on safe operations.”
