Gochang-gun Creates 'Waterfront Walking Trail' Around Ungok Reservoir

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, has created a waterside walking trail around Ungok Reservoir in Asan-myeon.

According to the county on the 29th, Ungok Reservoir is an artificial lake located within the Ungok Ramsar Wetland, one of Korea's 24 Ramsar wetlands.

The existing forest path was located mid-mountain, making it narrow and steep, blocking the view and somewhat inconvenient for walking, with many underbrush obstructing the sight.

With the newly established walking trail, visitors can enjoy a comfortable and safe walk, and by removing the underbrush, they can experience the beautiful scenery and refreshing breeze around the reservoir.

The county carried out oil stain treatment on the old deck facilities and resting benches, and installed safety loops on steep sections to create a comfortable forest path.

The project was made possible by the Cheongpung Kim clan (General Affairs Kim Jingap), who granted permanent land use permission free of charge to promote the health of Gochang residents.

The new walking trail was created on the route from the eco-friendly parking lot of Gochang Ungok Ramsar Wetland Natural Ecological Park, where visitors take the exploration train (about 15 minutes), get off in front of Ungok Seowon, and follow Course 2 towards Yonggye Village in the direction of the reservoir.

A county official said, “We thank the Cheongpung Kim clan for allowing the use of private land free of charge for such a good cause,” and added, “We will continue to maintain forest paths in the area to provide high-quality forest services to residents.”
