Genesis Ranks No.1 Premium Brand in U.S. New Car Quality Study

Overall Score of 156 Points, Lexus and Cadillac Surpassed to Become Top Brand

Genesis Ranks No.1 Premium Brand in U.S. New Car Quality Study

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Genesis has proven world-class quality in the most prestigious new vehicle quality study.

Genesis announced on the 29th that the Genesis brand achieved first place among premium brands in the "2022 New Vehicle Quality Study" released by the U.S. market research firm J.D. Power.

Now in its 36th year, the J.D. Power New Vehicle Quality Study is the world's most prestigious quality survey, which began in 1987. It compiles quality complaint cases experienced by customers during the first three months after purchasing a vehicle and expresses the number of complaints per 100 vehicles as a score; a lower score indicates higher quality satisfaction. This year's survey covered 189 models sold in the U.S. from November last year to February this year, across a total of 33 brands including 15 premium brands and 18 general brands, based on customer surveys on 223 items.

Genesis recorded a total score of 156, surpassing Lexus in second place (157 points) and Cadillac in third place (163 points), securing first place among premium brands. Since being selected for evaluation for the first time in 2017, Genesis consistently held the top spot among premium brands, dropped to second place for the first time last year, but regained first place this year with a high evaluation.

In particular, Genesis dominated competitors with a large score gap of 40 points compared to the premium brand average of 196 points. Genesis also showed superiority in class-specific evaluations. The G80 was selected as first place in the 'mid-large premium' class and won the 'Best Quality Award' for two consecutive years. The G70 and GV70 ranked second in the 'compact premium' and 'compact premium SUV' classes, respectively, and were selected as high-quality models.

Genesis also proved the high-quality technology of Korea's luxury brand once again by ranking first among premium brands in the durability quality study (VDS) held last February.

A Genesis official stated, “Genesis vehicles are designed and manufactured considering customer needs,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to provide vehicles of excellent quality.”

Meanwhile, Kia rose one rank from last year to fourth place among general brands and ranked fourth overall, climbing two places compared to the previous year. In class-specific evaluations, the K3 (local name Forte) won the highest quality award in the compact car segment.
