[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 28th (local time), President Yoon Suk-yeol told Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, "We intend to promptly resolve the issues between Korea and Japan and move forward with a future-oriented mindset."


President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida met face-to-face for the first time that late afternoon at a welcome gala dinner hosted by King Felipe VI of Spain.


The dinner was held to welcome the leaders attending the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) summit, which opened in Madrid.


The presidential office reported that President Yoon had a conversation with Prime Minister Kishida for about 3 to 4 minutes.


Prime Minister Kishida greeted first, congratulating President Yoon on his inauguration and his victory in the June 1 local elections, to which President Yoon responded, "I also hope that Prime Minister Kishida achieves good results in the House of Councillors election on the 10th of next month."


President Yoon said, "My aides and I intend to promptly resolve the issues between Korea and Japan after the House of Councillors election and move forward with a future-oriented mindset."


Prime Minister Kishida replied, "Thank you. I am aware of President Yoon's efforts for Korea-Japan relations. Let us work together to develop Korea-Japan relations into a healthier relationship."


The presidential office stated that the two leaders agreed to continue their dialogue at the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit on the 29th.
