[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Asiana Airlines announced on the 29th that it will officially resume operations on the Gimpo~Haneda route, starting with flight OZ1085 bound for Haneda.


This comes after a suspension of 2 years and 3 months due to the impact of COVID-19. The route will operate twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday.


On the same day, Asiana Airlines, together with Korea Airports Corporation, held a commemorative event for the resumption of the Gimpo~Haneda route at the international terminal of Gimpo Airport. Among the departing passengers, one was awarded a round-trip ticket for the Gimpo~Haneda route. All passengers received various souvenirs such as grip tok, Asiana Care Plus kits (disinfection supplies), and writing instruments.


The event was attended by Asiana Airlines CEO Jung Sung-kwon, Korea Airports Corporation President Yoon Hyung-jung, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Aviation Policy Director Kim Yong-seok, Daisuke Namioka, Economic Counselor of the Embassy of Japan in Korea, and Lee Soo-geun, Vice President of Korean Air, who celebrated the resumption of the Gimpo~Haneda route.


Asiana Airlines’ Gimpo~Haneda route departs from Gimpo Airport at 8:40 AM, the earliest departure time among airlines operating this route, arriving at Haneda Airport at 10:45 AM. The return flight departs Haneda Airport at 12:05 PM local time and arrives at Gimpo Airport at 2:25 PM. The route is operated using A321 and A330 aircraft, ensuring passengers a comfortable and safe flight.


Additionally, Asiana Airlines will operate code-share flights with All Nippon Airways (ANA), which operates the Haneda~Gimpo route twice a week, maximizing customer convenience with a more diverse schedule and increased seat supply. An Asiana Airlines official stated, “The Gimpo~Haneda route was a key Korea-Japan route with an annual demand of about 2.6 million passengers before COVID-19. Since the need to resume operations has been continuously discussed, we will do our best to operate the route to enhance convenience for customers from both countries and plan to gradually expand operations in the future.”


To commemorate the resumption of the Gimpo~Haneda route, Asiana Airlines is also running various promotions. Passengers purchasing tickets for the Gimpo~Haneda route through the Asiana Airlines website or mobile app by the 20th of next month will receive a discount coupon of up to 5%. Additionally, Asiana Club members staying at Marriott Bonvoy Tokyo hotels until August 31 will receive up to a 15% discount on rooms.


Moreover, additional benefits include ▲ a 10,000 KRW gift certificate and partnership money from Lotte Duty Free ▲ membership grade upgrades at Lotte Duty Free ▲ a 70% discount on yen exchange fees at Shinhan Bank, among other various perks.
