Heavy Rain Advisory Issued for Central Region... Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures본 Crisis Alert Raised to 'Caution'

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that, following the issuance of preliminary special warnings for Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Sejong, Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeonbuk regions from early morning to morning on the 29th, it activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters as of 8 p.m. on the 28th and raised the crisis alert level from 'Interest' to 'Caution.'

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, precipitation in the metropolitan area, inland Gangwon, Gangwon mountainous areas, Chungnam, central Chungbuk, and northern Chungbuk is expected to be 100 to 200 mm until the 30th. Areas in the metropolitan region and inland and mountainous Gangwon are forecasted to receive over 300 mm of rainfall.

Accordingly, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held a meeting with related agencies, including central government ministries, 17 cities and provinces, and the Korea Water Resources Corporation, to disseminate key management items. They inspected areas at risk of landslides and, especially given the heavy rainfall expected in North Korean regions, emphasized thorough water level monitoring in border areas such as the Imjingang River basin and strengthened preparedness activities to prevent casualties.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government continues to patrol rivers, roads, underpasses, and landslide-prone areas, removing hazards in advance. Additionally, if heavy rainfall is concentrated during commuting hours, they provide prior guidance on road closures.

Gyeonggi Province is real-time monitoring water level changes in border areas along the Imjingang River, including Pilsunggyo Bridge and Gunnam Dam, which are vulnerable to damage from heavy rain in North Korean and border areas. They have strengthened real-time communication systems between the province, city and county local governments, and flood control offices.

Furthermore, they have enhanced safety measures through pre-inspection activities in landslide-prone and disaster-risk areas and are intensively providing behavioral guidelines such as prohibiting access to heavy rain risk areas using disaster text messages.
