Mentioned NATO Summit Importance in Staff Meeting... Yoon "Building a Comprehensive Network"
(Madrid, Spain = Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan) President Yoon Suk-yeol, who is visiting Madrid, Spain to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, stated on the 28th (local time) that "Madrid is the point where South Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy and global security and peace vision meet NATO's '2022 New Strategic Concept'."
This remark was made during a meeting between President Yoon and his aides on the same day. President Yoon is focusing on expanding the values and norms of liberal democracy, strengthening emerging security cooperation, and expanding global partnerships as strategic points through his attendance at this NATO summit.
An official from the Presidential Office explained President Yoon's statement by saying, "NATO member countries invited South Korea, a key Indo-Pacific country, as a future core strategic partner, and we came to Madrid to discuss cooperation measures."
President Yoon is expected to convey the position that "freedom and peace are guaranteed only through international solidarity" to NATO member and partner countries. This aims to broaden the scope and geographical range of cooperation agendas between South Korea and NATO. After arriving in Madrid, Spain, President Yoon posted on Facebook, "Through three days of talks, we will build a comprehensive network that protects both the economy and security."
Meanwhile, President Yoon was invited as an Asia-Pacific partner country along with Japan, Australia, and New Zealand at this summit. He will emphasize the South Korean government's stance on North Korean denuclearization and discuss economic cooperation during the meeting.
