German Prosecutors Raid Hyundai Kia Motors' Local Offices in Germany and Luxembourg [Image source=AP Yonhap News]


[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] German prosecutors in Frankfurt have raided the local offices of Hyundai and Kia Motors in Germany and Luxembourg, according to major foreign media. The German prosecutors stated that Hyundai Kia Motors is suspected of installing illegal vehicle emissions manipulation devices.


On the 28th (local time), Reuters reported that the Frankfurt prosecutors announced in a statement that, together with the European Union's Eurojust, they raided eight local offices owned by Hyundai Kia Motors in Germany and Luxembourg. The Frankfurt prosecutors stated in the announcement that Hyundai Kia Motors is suspected of allowing more than 210,000 diesel vehicles equipped with illegal emissions manipulation devices to operate on the roads.


The Frankfurt prosecutors explained that the engine software in question is presumed to have been produced by parts companies such as Bosch, under the BorgWarner Group, and Delphi.
