[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Representative Hong Young-pyo has announced that he will not run in the Democratic Party of Korea's party convention scheduled for August. Hong explained that this decision was made for the unity and innovation of the party.
On the 28th, Hong declared through social networking services (SNS), "I have decided not to run in this party convention."
He said, "It was truly a difficult decision," adding, "I wanted to throw everything into leading unity and innovation so that the party could rise again."
Hong stated, "I have come to the conclusion that stepping down is the best course of action for me now," and emphasized, "The Democratic Party must restore its collapsed morality and reestablish the fundamental principles of a political party, such as responsible politics and intra-party democracy."
He added, "For this, I believe this party convention requires unifying leadership that will create a new vision through unity and innovation," and said, "The Democratic Party is a party with a proud 67-year history and has overcome numerous crises. This time as well, it will regain the trust of the people and surely be reborn as a competent policy party."
Hong concluded, "I will dedicate myself to the path of the Democratic Party's revival."
