A 'Precious Stone' Installed at the National Museum of Korea Plaza

[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The National Museum of Korea will exhibit the Mexican contemporary artwork "Precious Stone, Chalchihuites" at the museum's Mirror Pond Plaza. This is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Mexico.

"Precious Stone, Chalchihuites" is a representative work by Mexican visual artist Javier Mar?n. It has been exhibited worldwide, including at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium and the Museum Complex in The Hague, Netherlands.

The artwork consists of two concentric circles with a diameter of 5 meters, interwoven with human body sculptures. The concentric circles symbolize life and death by depicting water or blood falling to the ground. They also represent the periods before and after the Spanish invasion. The piece offers a modern interpretation of the conflict and peace between perpetrators and victims throughout history.

Bruno Figueroa, the Mexican Ambassador to Korea, stated, "We are proud to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations based on the friendship between our two countries. It is an honor to introduce this work, which reinterprets Mexico’s rich Aztec cultural heritage from a contemporary perspective, in commemoration of this milestone."
