"Samsung Electronics plans to expand the 'Wind-Free ecosystem' by developing a variety of consumer-customized air conditioners based on the world's first Wind-Free technology."

On the 28th, No Suhyeok, Executive Director of Samsung Electronics' Home Appliance Business Division, said this during a meeting with reporters at the Taepyeong-ro Building in Jung-gu, Seoul. Despite concerns about sales of home appliances including air conditioners due to rising electricity bills and inflation, he declared that they will overcome the crisis with their core product, the Wind-Free air conditioner.

According to Samsung Electronics on this day, the Wind-Free air conditioner is a product they first developed globally in 2016. They launched an air conditioner that meets the Wind-Free standard defined by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), which is a 'direct breeze-free' air conditioner, creating a stir in the market. Currently, it is sold in 78 countries, and 60 models of domestic stand-type air conditioners are on the market. Samsung Electronics explained that more than 2 million units of domestic stand-type models have been sold so far. It also features carbon reduction technology. They newly introduced the 'eco-friendly R32 refrigerant' and applied a solar cell remote control to enable energy savings. The R32 refrigerant is applied to all stand-type Wind-Free air conditioner models.

Samsung Electronics' philosophy is not only about technology but also about making products that fit consumers' lifestyles. According to Samsung Electronics, a total of 158 color combinations are available for Wind-Free air conditioners, including both stand and wall-mounted types. Since 2020, they have applied the 'Easy Open Panel' to allow easy panel cleaning at home. It also has the 'Bespoke Wind-Free Air Conditioner' function that sends warm air during spring, autumn, and transitional seasons, not just in summer.

Above all, it is notable that it is equipped with Samsung's unique AI-based integrated home appliance management solution called 'SmartThings Home Life.' The SmartThings Home Life system entered the Brazilian market for the fifth time on the 3rd of this month. Samsung's unique air conditioner system, which includes services such as energy usage monitoring and reduction and air quality management, is being actively exported. Regarding this, Executive Director No said, "Through SmartThings Home Life, we will upgrade the software to provide a product usage experience that is even more tailored to me."

Although there are prospects for decreased consumer demand due to inflationary burdens, this is why Samsung Electronics is confident in overcoming the crisis. The industry also expects the market size to grow by about 2 trillion won compared to the previous year due to the impact of summer heatwaves. Samsung Electronics has been steadily expanding its market channels, recently starting to sell Wind-Free system air conditioners in major e-commerce markets such as 11st and Coupang.

The day before, Korea Electric Power Corporation announced that it would raise the fuel cost adjustment rate for electricity bills in the third quarter by 5 won per kWh (kilowatt-hour). For a household of four, the monthly electricity bill is expected to increase by about 1,535 won.
