Hyupsung Iron & Steel Completes Classification Approval for High-Pressure Pumps on LNG Ships

- Actual Shipboard Implementation Imminent, Expecting Further Strengthening of Domestic LNG-Related Technology
- Successful Localization of Previously Overseas-Dependent High-Pressure Pumps

Hyupsung Iron & Steel Completes Classification Approval for High-Pressure Pumps on LNG Ships [Hyupsung Iron & Steel has completed the performance evaluation of the high-pressure pump for LNG carriers it developed and obtained class type approval.]

Earlier, Hyupsung Iron & Steel (CEO Hong Seok-hee) announced on the 28th that it successfully completed the durability test of the high-pressure pump for LNG carriers developed in collaboration with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (CEO Park Doo-sun), and has also obtained type approval from KR (Korean Register).

The high-pressure pump for LNG carriers is a key device that supplies high-pressure fuel to the natural gas propulsion engine (ME-GI engine), and until now, the products have been entirely imported from countries such as Japan, the United States, and France.

An official stated, "The core equipment market for LNG carriers has been monopolized by foreign companies, making it a barren land for domestic equipment. This localization is the result of win-win cooperation between technologically capable SMEs and large corporations, which not only addresses the supply chain crisis of core equipment but also further strengthens domestic LNG-related technological capabilities."

Additionally, Hyupsung Iron & Steel announced that it has completed the development of a low-pressure pump for LNG carriers and is currently conducting operational tests of the low-pressure pump together with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

The low-pressure pump is a key device that supplies fuel to LNG carriers using dual-fuel propulsion engines (ME-GA engines), and this too has been entirely dependent on imported products.

Hong Seok-hee, CEO of Hyupsung Iron & Steel, stated, "Beyond localization, we will do our best to continuously develop technology and strengthen technological competitiveness to create products that are recognized on the global stage and provide the highest satisfaction to our customers."
