'Seoul Run' Offers Customized College Admission Consulting for Vulnerable Groups... Applications Open from the 1st of Next Month

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul's online learning site ‘Seoul Learn’ announced on the 28th that starting from the 1st of next month, it will expand and implement content and services focused on ‘career and college admission’ to address educational disparities caused by information asymmetry.

First, ‘Seoul Learn’ will begin offering customized career planning counseling and college admission consulting services available to students from the first year of middle school through college entrance exam candidates. Multiple applications are allowed so users can access a wide range of desired services.

The career and college admission counseling and consulting services will be conducted as individualized consultations by current and former career and admission specialist teachers. Students from grades 7 to 11 can choose between two types of counseling: a single ‘intensive consultation’ or more than four ‘in-depth consultations.’ Applications will be accepted through the Seoul Learn website starting from the 1st of next month.

Seoul City will select about 250 students from middle school and above who want customized counseling, providing tailored plans according to individual circumstances such as special opportunity admissions (college entrance) and equal opportunity and social diversity admissions (high school entrance). Parents may also participate in the counseling if desired. Counseling locations will be conveniently operated through nearby designated counseling centers.

Separate career and college admission consulting will be prepared for vulnerable high school seniors and repeat exam takers who are about to enter college. Current and former teachers and admission experts will participate in this counseling as well, selecting around 300 students. The focus will be on strategies for each college admission type, providing intensive counseling and information on early admissions, interviews, personal statement editing, regular admissions, and entrance exams.

Additionally, Seoul Learn will provide content related to university transfer admissions. Newly added content such as transfer English and transfer mathematics for the 2023 academic year will be available on the learning site to help transfer students from vulnerable groups not give up on their desired schools and majors due to financial difficulties.

Considering that many transfer applicants are currently enrolled students, the transfer admission preparation content will be prepared to coincide with the short-term intensive summer vacation period. The provided transfer content includes 9 courses with 269 contents for transfer English (vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, past questions) and 5 courses with 167 contents for transfer mathematics (calculus, linear algebra, industrial mathematics).

Seoul City plans to continuously provide related content and services for students who need career and college admission information. Upcoming events include △college early admission strategy briefings △2023 high school entrance briefings △high school credit system and career planning briefings △2023 College Scholastic Ability Test provisional scoring analysis briefings △2023 regular admission final strategy briefings, among others.

Lee Dae-hyun, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Lifelong Education Bureau, said, “Finding a career path that suits oneself in life is equivalent to changing the future,” and added, “We expect that the grade-specific career and college admission consulting and university transfer content newly offered by ‘Seoul Learn’ will definitely help vulnerable youth in planning their futures.”
