Former President Lee Myung-bak, Facing Execution Stay Review, Rehospitalized for Chronic Disease Examination

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former President Lee Myung-bak, who is awaiting a review for suspension of sentence execution, has been hospitalized again for medical treatment.

According to Yonhap News on the 27th, former President Lee, who is incarcerated at Anyang Prison, was recently admitted to Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul for examinations and treatment related to his chronic illness.


Former President Lee has been receiving continuous hospital treatment for chronic conditions such as diabetes. Last year, he visited the hospital three times for examinations and treatment, and he was also hospitalized in January and February this year for diabetes-related tests.


Former President Lee is serving a prison sentence of 17 years with a fine of 13 billion KRW and a confiscation amount of 5.78 billion KRW, confirmed for charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.


Earlier this month, former President Lee applied for suspension of sentence execution due to deteriorating health, and the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office will hold a review committee on the afternoon of the 28th to examine the necessity of suspending the sentence execution.
