[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The transition team for the Governor of Gyeongnam Province, ‘Starting Clearly from the Beginning,’ announced the tasks for the 8th term of the local government on the 27th.

The transition team held a press conference at the provincial government press center and stated that they will promote 22 policies and 67 implementation tasks based on four major innovations and four major local government goals.

Team leader Jeong Sishik said, “We have adopted ‘Vibrant Gyeongnam, Happy Residents’ as the vision for the local government,” adding, “The vision, which residents directly proposed and selected through the provincial website, will serve as the core value of the local government and function as the guiding point for discovering and promoting Gyeongnam Province’s policies.”

He added, “It reflects the intention to realize a happy Gyeongnam where the province makes a new leap forward in various fields such as the livelihood economy, jobs, and culture, where vitality is evenly spread throughout Gyeongnam, and all residents can smile.”

The goals for the 8th term of the local government are ▲Strong economy, abundant jobs ▲Convenient spaces, flourishing culture ▲Safe living, reliable welfare ▲Pleasant environment, prosperous rural and fishing villages.

The seven key tasks include ▲Promoting special autonomous province status for investment attraction and designation of opportunity development zones ▲Early establishment of the Aerospace Agency and construction of an aerospace cluster ▲Creating youth jobs through fostering new industries and innovative startups ▲Developing a world-class cultural tourism site linked to the Tri-port ▲Balanced development for a livable Gyeongnam anywhere ▲Expanding public medical systems such as emergency medical care ▲Realizing Green Gyeongnam through carbon neutrality and climate change response.

Team leader Jeong emphasized, “Our province’s top priority is economic recovery and job creation,” and said, “To properly implement the local government goals and tasks and translate them into tangible results for residents, we must transform into a resident-centered working local government, as Park Wan-su, the governor-elect, said.”

“To this end, we will innovate organizational structure, organizational culture, finances, and regulations,” he said, adding, “We will eliminate duplication and waste of administrative resources such as organization, personnel, and finances, and establish a foundation to promote policies from the residents’ perspective within a creative organizational culture.”

On the same day, the transition team also mentioned the normalization of the development project in Ungdong 1 District, Jinhae-gu, Changwon City.

They stated that a normalization consultative body for Ungdong 1 District, involving Gyeongnam Province, Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority, Changwon City, Gyeongnam Development Corporation, and Jinhae Ocean Resort, will be formed to resolve issues by December this year.

Regarding the Robot Land project, which is currently in the second trial after losing the first trial, they said they will respond according to the lawsuit outcome.

The transition team said that the reduction of toll fees on the Geoga Bridge, a pledge of President Yoon Seok-yeol and Governor-elect Park Wan-su, requires support from the central government, and they will continuously appeal to the national government and central ministries.

At a conference hosted by the Local Autonomy Subcommittee on the 23rd, Governor-elect Park requested the upgrade of Geoga Bridge to a national highway, expecting that if upgraded, maintenance costs for tunnels and bridges will be supported by the state, leading to lower toll fees.

Regarding the reduction of toll fees on the Machang Bridge, which is also a pledge of Changwon Mayor-elect Hong Nam-pyo, the province and Changwon City plan to jointly invest finances to reduce the burden on residents.

The transition team expressed the position that the success of the special union of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam, called the Mega City, depends on the large-scale transfer of national affairs such as authority and finances from the central government to local governments.

They explained that projects considering balanced development among regions within the province, such as western Gyeongnam, are necessary, and that they will announce the results of a research project for setting developmental and complementary directions for the special union as soon as it is completed.

The transition team finalized the local government tasks after departmental work reports, policy meetings by subcommittees, expert and internal review meetings since June 7, when it was formed with 25 members across five subcommittees.

The local government tasks for Gyeongsangnam-do announced on this day will be finalized as an implementation plan after reviewing detailed action plans by each relevant department following the launch of the 8th term.

Team leader Jeong Sishik said, “I hope these local government tasks become a milestone for the newly starting Gyeongnam local government,” and added, “I hope the 8th term local government will invigorate the Gyeongnam economy and bring happiness to 3.4 million residents, and that everyone will always watch over and support us.”
