[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korea Forest Service announced that from the 27th until October 15th, the summer natural disaster response period will be designated, and inspection teams will be formed to conduct on-site inspections of emergency restoration sites affected by forest fires.

The inspection teams will be composed of four groups, each with two members per region. Additionally, four officials from the Landslide Prevention Division will be appointed as regional on-site supervisors, enabling each team to conduct on-site inspections twice a month.

The inspection targets are nine cities and counties where large forest fires have occurred since February and emergency restoration projects are underway: Yeongdeok, Goryeong, Uljin, Bonghwa, and Gunwi in Gyeongbuk; Hapcheon in Gyeongnam; and Gangneung, Donghae, and Samcheok in Gangwon.

The inspection teams will focus on checking the progress status of emergency restoration projects in these areas, drainage, and slope stability, and additionally plan to examine the safety conditions of landslide-prone areas and regions at risk of damage outside the forest fire-affected sites.

A Korea Forest Service official stated, “In areas at risk of landslides, if heavy rain or typhoons are expected, we will conduct pre-inspections using landslide site prevention teams and continue preventive measures such as issuing alerts and warnings through the landslide information system during normal times.”
