[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife departed for Madrid, Spain on the 27th to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.


President Yoon and First Lady Kim Geon-hee boarded Air Force One at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province at 1:54 PM for a 3-night, 5-day trip to Spain.


Earlier, President Yoon, dressed in a dark navy suit with a light pink tie, and First Lady Kim, wearing a white long-sleeved dress, exchanged greetings with Chief Presidential Secretary Kim Dae-gi, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Lee Jin-bok, People Power Party Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong, and Deputy Floor Leader Song Eon-seok, who were waiting in front of Air Force One.


After stepping onto the aircraft stairs, the presidential couple turned back at the door of Air Force One to wave to the farewell party once again before boarding.


President Yoon is scheduled to attend 14 diplomatic events, including a trilateral summit with the leaders of the United States and Japan, during the NATO summit held in Madrid, Spain on the 29th and 30th (local time).


The main purpose of this trip includes two meetings such as the NATO Allies-Partners meeting and talks with NATO Secretary General and King Felipe VI of Spain, nine bilateral meetings, one trilateral Korea-U.S.-Japan meeting, and one Korea-Spain business luncheon.


First Lady Kim will attend the spouse session events starting with a dinner hosted by the King and Queen of Spain at the Royal Palace in Madrid on the 28th, followed by a tour of the Spanish Royal Palace, the Royal Glass Factory, and the Queen Sofia Royal Art Museum on the 29th, and a rehearsal viewing at the Royal Opera House on the 30th.
