Small-Scale Home Repair Activities for Elderly Living Alone in Poor Living Conditions
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] On the 27th, the Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force in Jogok-dong, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do announced that they conducted a small-scale housing environment improvement project by visiting four single elderly households with vulnerable living conditions.
The 'Our Neighborhood Welfare Task Force' is a volunteer organization that identifies households in need of home repairs and carries out activities to improve living inconveniences.
Over the past two months, they have visited four single elderly households with vulnerable housing conditions and performed volunteer work such as replacing wallpaper, sinks, front doors, boilers, and window screens.
The housing environment improvement volunteer activities are planned to continue in the second half of the year.
Shin Seong-sik, head of the Jogok-dong Welfare Task Force, said, "When our members sweat and clean up places where mold had grown and caused hygiene concerns, I feel proud, and seeing the elders happy makes me even happier. Currently, the number of members is small, so we cannot do much volunteering, but I hope many residents with good intentions will participate so we can reach more neighbors."
Lee Seon-hwa, head of Jogok-dong, expressed, "I am truly grateful to the Welfare Task Force members who put their main work aside and volunteer while sweating in the hot weather. We will continue to focus on building a public-private cooperative welfare safety net so that warm sharing and interest in marginalized neighbors can continue."
