[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 27th that it will operate a ‘Voluntary Pet Registration Reporting Period’ until the end of August.
Pet registration is a mandatory requirement for anyone raising a dog over 2 months old for companionship at home, and under the Animal Protection Act, failure to comply may result in a fine of up to 1 million KRW.
Additionally, failure to report any changes may result in a fine of up to 500,000 KRW.
For new animal registrations or changes to the wireless identification device, owners must visit the animal registration agency designated by the local district office with their ID and the pet.
In cases of loss or recovery of the registered animal, or if the animal has died, changes can also be reported through the Animal Protection Management System, while changes in ownership must be reported directly to the local district office.
The city plans to conduct intensive inspections throughout September, after the voluntary reporting period ends, targeting unregistered pets and those who have not reported information changes.
Along with this, the city will continue the support project for implantable pet registration, which reduces the risk of loss or damage.
When registering a pet with an implantable device, citizens can register their pet for a fee of 10,000 KRW. Support for implantable pet registration fees applies not only to new registrations but also when changing from external devices or tags to implantable devices.
The city and Yuseong-gu operate a ‘Visiting Implantable Pet Registration’ service at the Daejeon Companion Animal Park, which is frequented by many dog owners, to encourage pet registration.
Park Ik-gyu, Director of the Agricultural and Life Policy Division of the city, said, “Pet registration is not optional but mandatory for pet owners,” and added, “We ask citizens who have not registered their pets so far to complete new registrations and report changes during this voluntary reporting period.”
