New Downsizing Engine... Upgraded Fuel Efficiency and Driving Performance
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Jeep announced on the 27th that it has officially launched the 2022 Renegade 1.3 model, enhanced for efficiency with a 1.3ℓ inline 4-cylinder MultiAir2 gasoline engine.
The Renegade is Jeep's representative compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) that broke the stereotype of "Jeep is a car for tough guys." The 1.3ℓ gasoline engine equipped in the 2022 Renegade is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, delivering up to 173 horsepower and a maximum torque of 27.6 kg·m. Despite the reduced displacement compared to the previous 2.4ℓ MultiAir gasoline engine, performance has become more powerful. The combined fuel efficiency is also improved by about 11% compared to the 2.4ℓ engine, achieving 10.4 km per liter, demonstrating the benefits of downsizing.
The exterior, which inherits Jeep's DNA while being reinterpreted with a modern sensibility, maintains the distinctive boxy design centered around the traditional seven-slot grille, but exudes a rebellious and unique image. The small yet stable body proportions, the round headlamps that provide a surprising contrast to the angular exterior, trapezoidal wheel arches, sleek curved lines, the diagonally sculpted lower door panels, and the X-shaped detail on the rear lamps all harmonize within the Renegade’s design synergy, making the Renegade 1.3 model stand out and assert its presence even from a distance.
The interior, practical yet witty, focuses on passenger convenience. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are standard features, while the higher trim Limited 1.3 FWD/AWD offers leather bucket seats for a more comfortable seating experience and enhances visibility with a 7-inch TFT color cluster display. The rear seats fold in a 40:20:40 split, securing an outstanding cargo capacity among compact SUVs in its class. It is well-equipped to carry outdoor sports gear favored by the MZ generation, such as surfing, paragliding, camping, and car camping, making it perfect for adventurous outings.
The Renegade 1.3 model offers a total of three trims tailored to the preferences of the MZ generation, who favor customization according to driving style and convenience features. The base trim, Longitude 1.3 FWD, features 17-inch aluminum wheels and is well-equipped with safety and convenience features such as the Keyless Enter ’n Go smart key system, ParkSense front/rear sensor parking assist system, and ParkView rear camera, allowing drivers to fully enjoy the appeal of the Renegade while ensuring safe and comfortable driving.
The top-tier trim, Limited 1.3 AWD, comes with 18-inch aluminum wheels and is equipped with Jeep Active Drive and the Selec-Terrain system. Additionally, it offers a rich array of features including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), RainSense lane departure warning plus system, full-speed forward collision warning plus system, Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen, and a premium audio system with a subwoofer, boasting high product value as the flagship trim.
The official selling prices for the 2022 Renegade 1.3 are 41.9 million KRW for the Longitude 1.3 FWD, 45.4 million KRW for the Limited 1.3 FWD, and 48.4 million KRW for the Limited 1.3 AWD.
