[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gangwon-do Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 27th that "water quality tests conducted on 38 major water play areas frequently visited by vacationers ahead of the summer holiday season all met the standards."

Escherichia coli was analyzed (from May 12 to June 3) at 38 locations, including Yeongwol Beophung Valley and Yangyang Eoseongjeon Valley (4 sites designated by the Ministry of Environment and 34 sites selected by the research institute and local governments). The results ranged from non-detection to 210 counts/100 mL (average 21 counts/100 mL), which is below the water quality guideline of less than 500 counts/100 mL.

Evaluation of seven items, including total coliform group, fecal coliform group, and total organic carbon, according to river living environment standards, showed results ranging from 'Slightly Good (Ⅱ)' to 'Very Good (1a)'.

The institute plans to continue monitoring water hygiene safety in July and August, and if standards are exceeded, it will implement pollution source removal and additional water quality investigations.
