[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will conduct a joint crackdown on inland water leisure activities from July 2 to September 17 to coincide with the peak summer season for water leisure.
On the 27th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has formed a joint inspection team consisting of city and county officials and the Coast Guard to carry out crackdowns on weekends and during vacation periods at major water leisure activity sites such as Cheongpyeong Lake and the Nam and Bukhan Rivers.
The main items subject to inspection include ▲ failure to wear safety equipment ▲ prohibition of unlicensed operation ▲ prohibition of operation under the influence of alcohol ▲ prohibition of exceeding capacity ▲ compliance with new and changed registrations of water leisure businesses ▲ compliance with mandatory posting of insurance subscription details, among others.
Before the intensive crackdown in July, the province is strengthening patrols and safety rule promotion activities focusing on major water leisure activity sites and accident-prone areas by utilizing water leisure safety monitors in each city and county.
A provincial official stated, "As the number of water leisure participants increases significantly, the possibility of various safety accidents is also rising," adding, "Before the crackdown, we conducted education and guidance until June to raise safety awareness among water leisure business stakeholders. Through this joint crackdown, we will strive to establish a sound and safe leisure activity culture."
Last year, the province conducted a joint crackdown on water leisure activities with the Coast Guard and city and county authorities, inspecting 61 cases including failure to wear safety equipment and lack of insurance subscription.
