[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Doosan Enerbility announced on the 26th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation in the domestic offshore wind power market with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), the global leader in offshore wind power.
The signing ceremony held in Copenhagen, Denmark, was attended by SGRE Offshore Wind CEO Mark Becker, Doosan Enerbility Power Service Sales General Manager Son Seung-woo, and other representatives from both companies.
SGRE is a subsidiary of Siemens Energy in Germany. It is a wind power specialist company established in 2017 through the merger of Siemens' wind power division and the Spanish wind power company Gamesa. It holds the number one market share in the global offshore wind power market with a supply record of 19.4 GW. Currently, it offers a variety of offshore wind power models ranging from 6 MW to 14 MW and is making large-scale investments for continuous product development.
Doosan Enerbility, which started its wind power business in 2005, holds the largest supply record in domestic offshore wind power, including the first domestic offshore wind farm Tamna Offshore Wind Power (30 MW) and the first phase of Seonamhae Offshore Wind Power (60 MW). Last year, it also signed a supply contract for Hanlim Offshore Wind Power (100 MW), the largest scale in Korea. Doosan Enerbility is a leading domestic offshore wind power company with capabilities spanning the entire wind power business, from offshore wind power system development to manufacturing, installation, construction, long-term maintenance, and farm development.
Through this MOU, the two companies agreed to cooperate in various fields such as systems, components, production, installation, and O&M for ultra-large offshore wind power. Additionally, SGRE and Doosan plan to jointly promote domestic production and the discovery and nurturing of component suppliers to revitalize the domestic offshore wind power ecosystem.
Mark Becker, CEO of SGRE Offshore Wind, said, "We are honored to establish a strategic partnership with Doosan Enerbility, which has pioneered the offshore wind power market as the number one company in Korea's offshore wind sector. We hope to create synergy based on strong mutual trust and contribute to the expansion of the Korean offshore wind power market and the development of the industry."
Park Hong-wook, Head of Doosan Enerbility Power Service BG, said, "By combining our accumulated in-house technology with SGRE's global business know-how, we can rapidly enhance our competitiveness in the offshore wind power business. Through cooperation, the two companies will expand the domestic offshore wind power market and contribute to revitalizing the domestic offshore wind power ecosystem."
Last year, Doosan Enerbility established Wind Power Plant 2 for the production of 5.5 MW turbines and expanded its wind power organization. It is developing an 8 MW offshore wind turbine optimized for domestic wind conditions and is preparing for commercialization, while also promoting the construction of a new factory for mass production of this model. In addition, it is expanding its offshore wind power business by planning the development of next-generation ultra-large models.
