[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] There are various discussions about whether Chinese President Xi Jinping will personally attend the 25th anniversary ceremony of Hong Kong's sovereignty return, which will be held on the 1st of next month. Local Hong Kong media reported that President Xi will go to Hong Kong in person but will not stay overnight and will leave Hong Kong on the same day.
According to the Hong Kong daily South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 26th, Chinese sources said there is a high possibility that President Xi will personally attend the ceremony.
A Beijing source revealed that they are closely cooperating with the Hong Kong side to ensure President Xi's trip to Hong Kong.
Another source said that President Xi will not stay overnight in Hong Kong and will leave immediately.
If President Xi actually goes to Hong Kong, it will be his first visit outside mainland China in two years and six months since January 2020, when COVID-19 began to spread widely in China.
