US Hedge Fund Citadel Leaves Chicago Due to City Crime Issues

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The major US hedge fund Citadel is relocating from Chicago to Miami.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 24th (local time) that Kenneth Griffin, CEO of Citadel, informed employees via email of the plan to move the Chicago headquarters to Miami, Florida.

The WSJ also reported that Griffin mentioned the relocation issue in a previous interview, citing the steadily increasing crime rate in Chicago as the reason.

He said, "There have been employees threatened by armed robbers and others stabbed on their way to work," adding, "In such circumstances, it is very difficult to recruit talent."

Currently, Citadel's Chicago headquarters employs about 1,000 people. Citadel is a large hedge fund managing $51 billion in assets.
