Ok-gyu Seok, Gijang County Governor, Continues Solo Protest Urging Application for Urban Railway Project Preliminary Feasibility Study

Ok-gyu Seok, Gijang County Governor, Continues Solo Protest Urging Application for Urban Railway Project Preliminary Feasibility Study On the 24th at around 10:30 a.m., Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang County, held a solo protest in front of Busan City Hall to strongly urge the city to promptly apply for the 'Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line Project' as a preliminary feasibility study project for 2022 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] On the 24th, Oh Gyu-seok, the mayor of Gijang-gun, continued a one-person protest to strongly urge the prompt application of the "Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line Project" as a preliminary feasibility study project for 2022 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line project connects the Jwacheon and Wolpyeong sections, linking the Donghae Line and the Busan~Yangsan~Ulsan metropolitan railway, contributing to the leap of Jeonggwan New Town as the new center of East Busan.

The Gijang Line project connects Anpyeong Station and Ilgwang New Town, enhancing accessibility to the old downtown area of Gijang-gun.

Mayor Oh Gyu-seok of Gijang-gun said, "So far, the public and private sectors have united and made strenuous efforts to attract the Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line," adding, "Now, as Busan City is about to apply for the preliminary feasibility study project, the fruits of these efforts are within sight."

Mayor Oh added, "The Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line are the only solution for transportation measures in Gijang-gun, the center of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (Bu-Ul-Gyeong) megacity, and Busan City and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport should actively cooperate to ensure the early promotion of these projects."

The Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line projects serve as a lifeline for the rapid evacuation of residents in case of nuclear accidents or similar emergencies in the Gijang area, which is the world's largest nuclear power plant cluster, and are the only alternative road transportation means for Gijang-gun, which is experiencing severe traffic chaos due to the settlement of Ilgwang New Town and the opening of Lotte World.

Gijang-gun has concentrated all administrative power, including Mayor Oh Gyu-seok and over 800 public officials, to attract the Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line projects.

Over the past 10 years, Mayor Oh Gyu-seok has directly visited related organizations such as the National Assembly, Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Busan City more than 160 times, appealing for the justification and necessity of attracting the Urban Railway Jeonggwan Line and Gijang Line, making every effort.

As a result of these efforts, the Jeonggwan Line has risen to 3rd place in the priority order of Busan City's urban railway network.
