[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 24th that it has completed inspections to prepare for natural disasters such as summer wind and flood damage and heatwaves, and held the 2nd countermeasure briefing session.
The briefing session, attended by 21 related departments involved in disaster management, reviewed the typhoon or heavy rain countermeasures discussed at the 1st countermeasure briefing session in April and discussed comprehensive heatwave countermeasures and the progress status of each department.
The detailed agenda of the meeting included the organization of the Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, the status of disaster prevention facilities and disaster-vulnerable areas, the status of heatwave reduction facilities, and key tasks for each department in the event of a disaster.
Kim Sun-ok, Deputy Head of Seo-gu Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, who presided over the meeting, said, “Please do your best to ensure residents have a cool and safe summer.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu established a comprehensive heatwave countermeasure plan last month to prepare for severe heatwaves, and conducted safety inspections of 288 cooling shelters, 95 shade shelters, and 3 smart shade shelters as heatwave reduction facilities.
They are also making thorough preparations for heatwave response by implementing emergency safety and security services for vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and disabled persons, heatwave alert services targeting vulnerable groups receiving home health visits, and basic health measurements.
Starting next month, the operation of three water spraying trucks, which was previously 1 to 2 times, will be expanded to 3 to 4 times.
