[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] The People Power Party has publicly demanded the opening of hiking trails near the Constitutional Court Chief Justice's residence in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.

On the 24th, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, said at a current affairs inspection meeting held at the National Assembly, "I walked towards the Constitutional Court Chief Justice's residence last weekend, and it was really blocked," adding, "I hope the Constitutional Court will not give the Chief Justice excessive courtesy and will open the closed road starting this weekend."

Kwon explained, "The site of the Chief Justice's residence inside is quite large," and added, "I don't think noise damage would be significant just because people pass through there during the day." He further stated, "If that logic is applied, then the alleys in Bukchon, where many tourists walk, should all be closed."

The area around the Chief Justice's residence was opened to the public along with the Blue House. However, as visitors flocked, the Constitutional Court complained of noise damage, and the Cultural Heritage Administration accepted this and closed the hiking trail.

People Power Party lawmaker Lee Yong-ho also said, "The Samcheong-ro hiking trail has been closed due to the Chief Justice's residence, causing considerable dissatisfaction among citizens," and added, "That land is public open space, meaning it is designated for roads, rest areas, and so on."

Lee emphasized, "The Constitutional Court requested closure to protect the Chief Justice's privacy, but the people's right to pursue happiness and health is also important," and urged, "Considering these factors, I request the Constitutional Court to open the closed road."
