[Asia Economy Reporter Intern Lee Gyehwa] A teacher at a daycare center in Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, was booked by the police for child abuse over the course of one year, including using violence against the children. Analysis of the police's closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage revealed about 240 suspected abuse incidents, and it was found that the number of affected children reached eight.


The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency announced on the 23rd that teacher A and director B of the daycare center were booked without detention on charges including violation of the Child Welfare Act.


A is suspected of committing acts of child abuse, including physical violence and emotional harassment, against at least eight children at a daycare center in Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, over about 240 occasions from March last year for one year.


As a result of the police's CCTV analysis, about 240 suspected abuse incidents were discovered, and the number of affected children was found to be eight. Accordingly, Paju City ordered the closure of the daycare center and administratively suspended the qualifications of A and B for five years.


The police also booked director B, who shares management responsibility with A, without detention on charges including violation of the Child Welfare Act, and plan to transfer the case to the prosecution after completing the investigation.
