[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] South Korea has reached the final for the first time in history in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay at the World Swimming Championships. The 4x200m freestyle relay is a team event where four swimmers each swim 200 meters freestyle consecutively to determine the ranking.


The South Korean team finished 4th in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay heats at the 2022 FINA World Championships held on the 23rd at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary. The team, consisting of Hwang Sun-woo, Kim Woo-min (Gangwon Provincial Office), Lee Yoo-yeon (Korea National Sport University), and Lee Ho-jun (Daegu City Hall), set a new Korean record of 7 minutes 08.49 seconds.


They ranked 4th overall, following the United States (7 minutes 04.39 seconds), Brazil (7 minutes 06.98 seconds), and Hungary (7 minutes 07.46 seconds).


The final will be held on the morning of the 24th Korea Standard Time.


Hwang Sun-woo set three Korean records during the competition. The records were set in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay, with the team of Hwang Sun-woo, Lee Yoo-yeon, Kim Ji-hoon (Daejeon City Sports Council), and Kim Min-jun (Gangwon Sports High School) finishing in 3 minutes 15.68 seconds; the men's 200m freestyle (1 minute 44.47 seconds); and the men's 4x200m freestyle relay. In the men's 50m freestyle swim-off, Ji Yoo-chan (Daegu City Hall) set the fourth Korean record of this competition.
