[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] President Yoon Suk-yeol has ordered thorough preparations to prevent damage caused by the monsoon season.
On the 23rd, President Yoon stated, "This year, drought continued until early summer, and many large wildfires occurred, leaving the soil nationwide highly vulnerable to landslides during the monsoon season." He instructed, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety, related ministries, and agencies should conduct pre-inspections of landslide-prone areas at risk of heavy rain damage, as well as rivers, coastal lowlands, campsites, and camping grounds," according to Kang In-seon, spokesperson for the Presidential Office.
President Yoon also ordered, "Quickly implement safety measures for vulnerable areas and facilities, such as maintaining road drainage and clearing sediment from small streams." He emphasized, "During heavy rains, urgently evacuate residents in landslide-prone and other dangerous areas, and actively inform the public about disaster response guidelines to ensure no casualties occur."
