[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] LG Display announced on the 23rd the final winners of the "2nd Global Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) Design Competition," co-hosted with the UK design media Dezeen.

The competition attracted over 300 design professionals from 45 countries. LGD comprehensively evaluated the originality, design aesthetics, usability, and technical feasibility of the entries to select the top five works.

The first prize went to "Caelum," a desk featuring a transparent OLED partition. The design combines a 27-inch transparent OLED with a partition that wraps around the front of the desk, allowing the partition itself to be used as a display. Afsal, a designer from Turkey who created the piece, said, "I aimed to design the most suitable desk for remote work," adding, "Using transparent OLED technology, I was able to design a desk that offers both functionality and openness."

Other winning works included an all-in-one solution combining a 32-inch rollable OLED with a foldable shelf-type desk and speakers, as well as a freely movable touch-type transparent OLED. There were also awarded pieces that rolled a rollable OLED into a soundbar and combined a transparent OLED with an easel-type stand.

LGD plans to review the commercialization potential and market prospects of the winning works and nurture them as new business ventures.
