[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] SK Chemicals announced on the 23rd that it has published its sustainability management report detailing its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management performance from last year.


Through the report, SK Chemicals introduced that it created a total social value of 669.5 billion KRW last year. Specifically, this includes 496.7 billion KRW from economic indirect contributions such as taxes and dividends, 11.8 billion KRW from environmental performance, and 161 billion KRW from social performance.


SK Chemicals explained that to enhance the transparency of social value measurement, it has been disclosing measurement indicators on its website starting this year. SK Chemicals plans to expand low-carbon eco-friendly businesses to reduce 50% of the projected greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and to cut all of the projected 1.37 million tons of greenhouse gases by 2040, achieving 'net zero' (carbon net emissions zero).


Kim Cheol-jin, Head of Management Support Division at SK Chemicals, said, "We plan to systematically carry out ESG management, which is a key topic in global management recently, and promote mid- to long-term financial strategies through various activities to enhance sustainability."
