Jung-gu, Seoul, has launched pest control operations targeting parks and green spaces around residential areas. In addition, due to the increase in mosquitoes during summer, disinfection activities are being conducted in areas with many complaints, such as sewers and covered streams.
From the 21st to July 1st, Jung-gu will conduct intensive pest and mosquito control in 61 parks including Seosomun History Park and Son Ki-jung Sports Park, as well as 238 green spaces such as pavilions and small gardens in each village.
Accordingly, sequential pest control activities will be carried out starting from the 21st in ▲Yaksu-dong ▲Cheonggu, Donghwa, Hwanghak, Sindang 5-dong (on the 22nd) ▲Dasan-dong (23rd) ▲Euljiro, Gwanghui, Myeongdong (24th) ▲Sogong-dong (27th) ▲Jungnim-dong (28th) ▲entire district (29th) ▲Dasan, Dongho-ro (30th) ▲Tongil, Mallijae, Toegye-ro (July 1st), with working hours from 9:20 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This pest control is designed to prevent damage such as tree death and aesthetic degradation caused by summer pests, and to alleviate residents' discomfort from the surge of mosquitoes in green spaces closely connected to residential areas.
In particular, aphids, spotted lanternflies, and pine caterpillars mainly infest landscaping trees such as zelkova, cherry, and wisteria trees planted in parks. These pests chew leaves, damaging the value of landscaping trees, harming aesthetics, and causing secondary issues like sooty mold from excrement, which can increase ants. Therefore, proactive pest control is crucial.
Mosquitoes, which are difficult to control with tree pest pesticides, are targeted by spraying insecticides in manholes and septic tanks, and treating mosquito larvae in standing water.
Additionally, extra disinfection will be conducted in areas with frequent resident requests such as covered streams and sewers. This additional disinfection will be carried out alongside scheduled disinfection dates for each neighborhood, with opinions being gathered from neighborhood chiefs and community leaders. Some neighborhood community centers have also independently conducted disinfection.
During pest control operations, the district plans to notify residents via text messages and hang banners to inform them of partial traffic controls.
