As the rainy season begins nationwide, the Seoul metropolitan area is expected to receive over 120mm of rain. Heavy rain will be concentrated in the metropolitan area from the afternoon through the night, and in the southern regions from night until early tomorrow morning.

Due to a low-pressure system developed along the stationary front, rain will start in the central regions, Jeolla area, western Gyeongsang, and Jeju Island from the morning of the 23rd, and in the Gyeongsang area from the early morning of the 24th. The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued a heavy rain advisory for Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi Province, and parts of Gangwon Province starting from midday. From afternoon to night, the metropolitan area and Gangwon Yeongseo will experience heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, with hourly rainfall exceeding 30-50mm. The Chungcheong region, southern areas, and Jeju Island will also see heavy rain with thunder and lightning from night until early tomorrow morning, so caution is advised for potential rain damage.

In areas with heavy rainfall, more than 150mm is expected in the Jeonnam region and Jeju Island, and over 120mm in the metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungnam region, and Jeonbuk. Expected precipitation amounts are 30-100mm in the metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong region, northern Gyeongbuk, Jeolla area, Gyeongnam area, and Jeju Island, and 10-60mm in Gangwon Yeongdong, southern Gyeongbuk, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo. Rain will cease in the central regions from early morning on the 24th, and in most areas by the afternoon of the 24th. The Korea Meteorological Administration urges thorough preparation against flood damage as heavy rain is expected in a short period following a prolonged drought.

The highest daytime temperatures on this day will range from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. In the Gyeongbuk area, where rain will arrive later, the highest perceived temperature will rise above 33 degrees Celsius. Heatwave warnings issued for Daegu and Gyeongbuk have been lifted due to the rain. Fine dust levels are expected to be ‘Good’ across all regions.

After the rain stops, a heatwave will return from the 25th to the 27th. Due to atmospheric instability, showers are forecast in the southern inland areas from the afternoon through the night on the 25th.

In recent years, during the rainy season, rain has fallen nationwide all at once due to the influence of dry air moving southward from the north as well as the stationary front, followed by several days without rain. After a brief rainfall on the 23rd and 24th, the stationary front will reactivate from the 28th to the 30th, bringing monsoon rain mainly to the central regions.
