[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The Ministry of Science and ICT has embarked on policy formulation in collaboration with the private sector to advance the nation as a digital economy powerhouse.
On the morning of the 23rd, Park Yoon-kyu, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, held a "Digital National Agenda Continuous On-site Meeting" at the headquarters of Marvelous, a digital education service company located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. He reviewed AI and data policy achievements with representatives from nine companies and discussed ways for domestic companies to create digital innovation outcomes on the global stage.
The meeting was attended by Hwang Young-kyu, CEO of Alchera; Park Jung-woo, co-CEO of Soynet; Lee Jung-soo, CEO of Flitto; Song Young-gi, CEO of Sprinklr Cloud; Lee Je-dong, Vice President of Wise ITEC; Park Yong-sung, Vice President of Agen Global; Gil Hyun-gyeom, Director of Marvelous; Kwon Hyuk-sung, Director of FortyTwoMaru; and Jang Jung-hoon, Executive Director of WiseNut.
They engaged in in-depth discussions on difficulties arising throughout the entire business process, including development and launch of digital services in fields such as finance, autonomous driving, and education, overseas expansion, policy support measures to resolve these issues, and ways to spread digital innovation services that the public can experience. There was also a demonstration of an emotional AI engine that recognizes users' faces to analyze emotions and concentration levels, as well as digital education services for kindergarten and elementary students.
The on-site meeting chaired by Vice Minister Park is part of close communication efforts to derive digital policy measures. This is based on the judgment that amid global digital transformation and technological hegemony competition, the nation must achieve national innovation by uniting public and private sectors to become a digital economy powerhouse.
The meeting is conducted by selecting 20 topics aligned with key national digital agendas: "Realizing a Digital Economy Powerhouse through Public-Private Cooperation" and "Building the World's Best Network and Accelerating Digital Innovation." Topics include AI and data, cloud and software, metaverse and digital platforms, 5th and 6th generation (5G and 6G) mobile communications, cybersecurity, industrial and regional digital innovation, and digital universality and accessibility.
The Ministry of Science and ICT shares policy directions through the meeting and identifies public-private cooperation matters and policy proposals to advance as a digital powerhouse. Furthermore, it plans to listen to difficulties faced by companies and academia at least every two weeks and seek solutions on-site through in-depth discussions to reflect them in policies.
Vice Minister Park stated, "Digital transformation means that the economy, society, and citizens' lives are newly innovated through digital means. For us, who have strengths in digital, it is both a new opportunity and a challenge. I will meet with field experts to listen to industry difficulties and support needs, and based on this, resolve institutional obstacles and reflect them in policies."
