[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The "ESG Management Information Provision Service" conducted by the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recently been shown to greatly help close the ESG management information gap among local companies.
The "ESG Management Information Provision Service" is being promoted as part of the "Corporate ESG Management Activation Support Project," which is implemented in cooperation with Gwangju Metropolitan City to closely support raising awareness of ESG management and the introduction of ESG management among local companies.
The Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has provided local companies with a mailing service that includes the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry's ESG newsletter covering the latest ESG information, ESG online education programs from A to Z, ESG expert lectures, domestic and international seminar online content, and the latest ESG economic indicators. Since March, a total of five distributions have been made.
In the recently distributed "ESG INFO 2022-05 issue," information was provided on a survey of ESG management and corporate perceptions from the perspective of the MZ generation, SK Hynix's ESG promotion case, domestic companies' ESG implementation strategies and establishment plans, and recently emerging investor ESG investment indicators such as the KOSPI 200 ESG index, SRI (Socially Responsible Investment) bonds, and carbon emission allowance price information.
Additionally, the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry held an ESG awareness-raising briefing session in May aimed at strengthening the basic ESG capabilities of local companies. Recently, it has been recruiting companies to benefit from ESG management diagnosis and consulting, and is known to be taking a pioneering role in spreading and introducing ESG management in the region by carrying out various ESG awareness-raising activities and ESG management introduction support projects.
Choi Jong-man, full-time vice chairman of the Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "Local companies are directly being asked by their clients to introduce ESG management for supply chain management purposes, and whether they adopt and practice ESG management greatly affects corporate management activities. However, local companies feel a heavy burden in adopting ESG management due to cost burdens and lack of guidelines."
He added, "Through ESG management diagnosis and consulting support, we hope to spread the adoption of ESG management among local companies and create new growth engines. Furthermore, we hope that the ESG Management Information Provision Service will serve as a medium to close the ESG information gap among local companies and promote ESG management practice. We will continue to strive to find practical support measures that help ESG management practice in the future."
