[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Southern Fire Station announced that it is implementing fire safety measures targeting aging apartment complexes with potential for large-scale casualties.
According to the 2021 basic statistical data, among the 208 aging apartment complexes located in Nam-gu, 111 complexes, accounting for 53.37%, lack sprinkler systems.
Accordingly, the Southern Fire Station is conducting fire safety consulting through a dedicated team for apartment complexes without sprinkler systems until August. This includes ▲guidance on preparing fire safety plans for apartment complexes ▲checking fire truck access and training on fire extinguisher use ▲installation of automatic rooftop door openers ▲and preemptive removal of careless fire hazards.
Furthermore, since apartment complexes are living spaces where residents stay continuously, evacuation is difficult during fires due to the number of floors, and smoke spreads through staircases and elevators, making evacuation challenging. Therefore, fire safety management in apartment complexes is especially important in advance, and citizens are urged to voluntarily manage safety, including learning how to use fire extinguishers.
