[Seoul District Mayors Elected in the 8th Term of Civil Election] Park Gang-su, Mayor-Elect of Mapo District, Declares "Will Be the Foreword to Fulfilling the Citizens' Aspiration for a Better Mapo"... Park Il-ha, Mayor-Elect of Dongjak District, Begins to Specify Major Project Roadmap
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu is opening the door to the 8th term of the elected government with the slogan "New Mapo, Better Mapo."
The Transition Committee for the 8th term of the elected Mapo-gu Office announced on the 22nd that it has finalized the district administration slogan to accompany the newly launched 8th term of the elected government for the next four years.
A committee official explained the meaning of the slogan, saying, "The slogan embodies the strong will of the 8th term 'Park Gang-su administration' to achieve a higher leap forward, grow into a prestigious city representing Korea, and transform Mapo into a better place to live for all 400,000 residents without leaving anyone behind."
He added, "Among the submissions, the keywords 'newness' and 'change' were the most frequent. This also shows that many residents desire change in the region."
In particular, Park Gang-su, the elected mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "Since the 8th term of Mapo was born from the residents' desire for change, transparent public service based on fairness and principles and administration serving only the residents will be the top priority," signaling administrative reform to become more upright and renewed.
The slogan selection process took place from the 16th to the 20th, involving public submissions from residents and all employees, as well as feedback from the transition committee. The elected mayor and the committee thoroughly reviewed a total of 319 submissions before making the final decision.
The new slogan for the 8th term will serve to present Mapo's vision and development direction for the next four years starting July 1.
Park Il-ha, the elected mayor of Dongjak-gu, has begun thoroughly reviewing major project execution plans for Dongjak's development after completing departmental briefings.
During the first departmental briefing held from the 13th to the 20th, Mayor Park requested, "Please report detailed work plans with the top priority being the development of Dongjak-gu and the enhancement of residents' quality of life," emphasizing, "All projects should have clear implementation periods such as 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years, so that 'Working Dongjak' can present tangible results to the residents."
After completing the departmental briefings, Mayor Park has been conducting on-site inspections of major facilities and institutions alongside meetings to concretize projects in order to establish practical execution plans. On the 21st, he visited the Boramae Waste Transfer Station in Sindaebang-dong, Dongjak-gu, to check the progress of the Dongjak-Gwanak Joint Resource Circulation Center construction, requesting supplementation of upper-level usage plans and funding procurement measures for swift advancement.
At the project plan review meeting held on the 22nd, execution plans from the Job Economy Bureau and the Living Environment Bureau were reported. At this meeting, Mayor Park said, "Regarding the expansion of public parking lots in traditional markets, one of the top 10 campaign pledges, please select target sites based on thorough demand analysis and boldly benchmark excellent cases from other local governments, exploring multifaceted approaches."
During the report on the execution plan for creating a DNA new industry tech unicorn company hub in Noryangjin, he emphasized, "While the central government may propose the big picture of startup activation, local governments must present measurable targets and specific achievement timelines rather than abstract plans," urging a more proactive approach to project planning.
Meanwhile, Mayor Park Il-ha plans to hold one more departmental project plan review meeting by the 28th to directly oversee the execution plans of major projects. The finalized execution plans will be announced at the Dongjak-gu vision declaration ceremony for the 8th term of the elected government on July 1.
