[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station announced on the 22nd that it would convey several safety precautions to prevent various accidents as outdoor activities such as camping and glamping increase at outdoor tourist sites like campgrounds.
According to statistics from the National Fire Agency, there were a total of 145 camping-related fires nationwide over the past three years, resulting in 25 casualties.
The main causes of accidents were electrical factors with 43 cases, negligence in managing fire sources such as charcoal with 26 cases, and cigarette butts with 16 cases.
When using portable cooling devices during camping, caution is required as leaving the cooling device on for a long time or tangled electrical extension cords can cause overheating and lead to fires.
At campgrounds adjacent to forests, fires must be handled only in designated areas, and barbecue equipment should be used. Additionally, after making a fire, it is necessary to check that the embers are completely extinguished and to take safety measures such as thoroughly sprinkling water and sand.
Also, accidents caused by butane gas occur occasionally. Since most butane gas accidents are caused by explosions, using butane gas cans equipped with explosion prevention features and installing fire safety kits (carbon monoxide detectors, fire blankets, glow-in-the-dark stickers indicating the location of fire extinguishers) greatly helps prevent accidents.
