[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hanwha General Insurance announced on the 21st that it delivered consolation money of 500,000 KRW, 1,000,000 KRW for purchasing daily necessities for damage recovery, and relief kits worth 200,000 KRW to a low-income resident in Gaepo-dong who suffered property damage due to a fire accident at the Gangnam Fire Station in Seoul.
The 71-year-old victim, who has dementia caused by a stroke 15 years ago and right hemiplegia symptoms, experienced a fire of unknown cause at an electric scooter stored in the apartment entrance, which completely burned down the entrance and caused damage worth about 7 million KRW to household goods.
The victim’s child, who recently quit working as a night education teacher, was also facing financial difficulties in independently restoring the accident and compensating for the damage.
A Hanwha General Insurance official said, “Our company’s executives and employees are continuously communicating with the local community to help build a social safety net in the area and are united in their efforts to solve social problems,” adding, “We will take the lead in sharing hope where there is difficulty with sincerity.”
Since 2015, Hanwha General Insurance has been working with the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters and Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association to select households struggling financially among fire accident victims in Seoul and help them return to daily life. Including this household, a total of 150 households have been supported.
