Gwangju Nam-gu, Roundtable Discussion on 'UNICEF Child-Friendly City' on the 24th


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is preparing a forum to listen to the diverse voices of residents for the creation of a UNICEF Child-Friendly City.


Nam-gu announced on the 22nd that “to explore the direction of the UNICEF Child-Friendly City creation project and discover policies to build a happy welfare Nam-gu where children can dream, a roundtable discussion will be held on the 24th at 1:30 PM in the large conference room on the 8th floor of the district office to gather opinions from children under 18 and residents.”


The UNICEF Child-Friendly City roundtable discussion will include about 50 student debaters attending elementary, middle, and high schools in the district, along with about 10 child guardians and members of the Child-Friendly City Promotion Committee participating as citizen debaters.


After watching a video about the creation of a child-friendly city, participants will be divided into groups to discuss policies necessary for establishing a child-friendly city and the four major rights of children: the right to survival, development, protection, and participation, for 50 minutes.


The contents discussed in each group’s discussion will be shared with all other group participants through an opinion exchange and presentation session, and the proposals made during the roundtable discussion will be reflected in future policies when promoting the UNICEF Child-Friendly City creation project.


A Nam-gu official stated, “We are promoting the UNICEF Child-Friendly City creation project to realize the rights of children under 18, and we will actively reflect the voices of children in the district in administration to bring about a revolutionary change in child policies.”
