Gokseong-gun, Solving Our Village Welfare Issues with Our Own Hands

Providing Welfare Services Tailored to Resident-Led Eupmyeon Conditions and Resident Needs

Gokseong-gun, Solving Our Village Welfare Issues with Our Own Hands

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that this year, 20 village welfare plans have been established in 11 eup and myeon areas to promote various village welfare projects.

Village welfare plans refer to residents directly discovering, planning, and implementing small-scale welfare agendas within their communities. Gokseong-gun has been promoting this for three years since 2020.

Because village welfare plans are resident-led, they are significant in providing welfare services tailored to the conditions and needs of each eup and myeon.

This allows for diverse approaches in each region and customized solutions to welfare issues.

Additionally, by residents leading all processes themselves, it enhances residents' autonomy and fosters community capacity.

Ultimately, this results in an increased welfare satisfaction level among the beneficiaries receiving welfare services.

According to Gokseong-gun, among the 20 village welfare plans, 14 projects are being implemented in the first half of this year.

Representative projects include water pump replacement, beauty services, installation of safety bars, and provision of daily necessities.

Along with this, annual community donations such as cash, Baeksemi rice, and side dishes are added, giving momentum to village welfare.

Another notable point is that most village welfare services are provided through home visits.

This allows a closer look into the lives of residents from all walks of life, greatly helping to resolve welfare blind spots and issues like youth solitary deaths.

Gokseong-gun plans to hold a performance presentation meeting in December to share the process and results of village welfare projects carried out in the 11 eup and myeon areas.

It is expected to be a meaningful occasion where residents voluntarily participate to discuss problems encountered while solving village welfare issues and the solutions they found.

A Gokseong-gun official said, “Village welfare plans will play a crucial role as a stepping stone to revitalize village communities and connect the public and private sectors. We ask eup and myeon community security council members to actively communicate and do their best to discover customized village welfare plans that residents want.”
