[Featured Stock] Shinhwa Intertek Develops Smart Glasses Technology with US Big Tech... Large-Scale Investment for Mass Production Next Year

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] Sinhwa Intertek is showing strong performance. The stock price appears to be influenced by expectations that sales will surge as the company begins full-scale mass production of smart films used in metaverse (extended virtual world) devices.

At 1:27 PM on the 21st, Sinhwa Intertek was trading at 2,815 KRW, up 21.34% from the previous day.

Sinhwa Intertek, listed on KOSDAQ, is an affiliate of the Hyosung Group. Hyosung Chemical is the largest shareholder with 20%. Major clients include TV manufacturers Samsung Electronics and Sony, as well as display manufacturer Samsung Display. The company mainly produces quantum dot (QD) films used in Samsung Electronics' QLED TVs.

Kim Hak-tae, CEO of Sinhwa Intertek, stated, "We are ready to target the new industry of the metaverse market with smart films utilizing nearly 30 years of accumulated display material technology."

Sinhwa Intertek has completed basic technology development for smart glasses with a major US big tech company, though the company name remains confidential. The product is scheduled for mass production next year. To this end, an investment of approximately 20 billion KRW is underway at the headquarters' Cheonan plant in Chungnam. The company is also discussing contracts to supply smart glasses, HUD (Head Up Display), and integrated platforms to global automakers. CEO Kim said, "Through high value-added business selling optical modules with attached smart films, we aim to achieve sales of 500 billion KRW within three years."

Optical modules are key components in XR glasses, which global companies are focusing on developing. If Sinhwa Intertek mass-produces optical modules equipped with Epition's XR software, it is expected to play a key role in the metaverse value chain. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms, which has designated the 3D virtual space metaverse as its next-generation business, unveiled virtual reality (VR) technology that achieves 'vision 1.0' functionality, equivalent to human retinal resolution. Among the prototypes introduced, 'Butter Scotch,' which replicates the resolution shown by the human retina, attracted attention. 'Butter Scotch' delivers about 2.5 times better resolution than the currently marketed VR headset 'Quest 2.'

Zuckerberg argued that in the future, if virtual reality technology can create environments indistinguishable from reality, there may be no need to purchase TV devices. Major foreign media reported, "A perfect-image metaverse world is just a few years away," and "Meta's prototype proves this."
