Namwon-si Launches Full-Scale 'Single-Person Household Welfare Check Service'

Namwon-si Launches Full-Scale 'Single-Person Household Welfare Check Service'

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, is set to actively promote services for checking on single-person households.

According to the city on the 20th, the single-person household check-up service project is being promoted to reduce social risks caused by population changes and the rapid increase of single-person households. It is a policy designed to prevent citizens living alone from being exposed to social and economic risks.

To this end, the city signed a tripartite agreement with Korea Electric Power Corporation and SK Telecom on February 14, and for the project, it has reflected 18 million KRW in the city’s supplementary budget for the second half of the year to cover service fees for 1,000 people.

This project works by having AI notify Namwon City if electricity usage and smartphone usage patterns differ from usual. The additional service fees are fully covered by Namwon City, and if assistance is needed, social welfare officers provide or connect welfare services through the system.

The telecommunications company eligible for service application is SK Telecom, and applications can be made year-round at the administrative welfare centers in the resident’s eup, myeon, or dong.

A city official stated, “With the increase in single-person households and more citizens complaining of depression after COVID-19, the risk of solitary death is rapidly rising along with economic crises. We will do our best to strengthen customized welfare functions at the eup, myeon, and dong levels and ensure that no blind spots in care occur.”
